Historic Preservation

Coppola Associates has extensive experience with historic preservation and has worked with property owners to preserve and bring new life to existing structures. We are familiar with national and state register programs, as well as funding programs and agencies to help support these preservation efforts. Coppola Associates is sensitive to architectural elements in each building on which we work and the place of each building in its community.

We research and write federal rehabilitation tax credit applications for projects within and outside of designated historic districts. We also complete state homeowner tax credit applications. We regularly interact with both SHPO and NPS to ensure compliance with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation. All completed projects have resulted in tax-credit approval, ensuring financial viability of the projects. In addition, we have experience with local Architectural Review Boards, ensuring compliance to local standards. Projects include single-family homes, multi-use properties, industrial complexes, and a railroad station.

Recipient of the 2008 Preservation League of New York State award for Excellence in Historic Preservation, one of our projects, the Kirkland Hotel, an historic landmark in Kingston, NY, is now restored as a mixed-use property. Incorporating a geothermal heating system, this project demonstrates that rehabilitation can successfully employ green building technologies. See the Preservation League’s site for details.
